The script called for a Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) but they are expensive and boring. I felt we'd be better served making our own.  I used a gaming tower from Fry's, a run-of-the-mill high school microscope and added lights on both interior and exterior to get the basic look and then had fun with car parts, plumbing supplies and a couple of bongs from a head shop.
